Painting with paint roller is one of the most common ways that are usually used by many painters. However, if you are not a pro, you will find that painting with roller will cause so many strokes in your wall. Therefore, many painters prefer to use airless spray gun rather than paint-roller to avoid this thing. If you like to paint with paint roller, we have some tips to avoid you from making any paint roller strokes.
1. Find a bucket that can contain at least 5 gallon of paint. For the first step, you need to use paintbrush to paint the edges of the walls where they meet the ceiling, trim and other walls. You need to use paintbrush since it is difficult to access these corner areas with the roller, and only paintbrush that can cover it neatly.
2. Put a bucket screen into the bucket and fit it. Set the roller sleeve to the roller, and drop the nap of one side of the roller into the paint. Then, roll it onto the screen and drop the other side into the paint. Usually, you will need to continue the process until five to seven full rotations to gets the nap drenched perfectly.
3. Begin to paint about 1 foot from the floor and 6 inches from the corner with a long and smooth stroke up the wall. Angle the stroke slightly so it isn’t perfectly vertical, and remember to half a few inches before you reach the ceiling. The strip of paint on the wall should be thick and heavy. This is called laying on the paint.
4. At this point, you are ready to spread the paint by rolling it with shorter and quicker strokes on the wall into the empty area.
5. Dip the roller with paint again. But, this time, you only need two rotations since your nap is still full with paint. Lay on the paint 6 inches from the painted area, and spread the paint to fill the space between them. Carry on the process until you have covered a section of the wall about 4 feet wide.
6. Do back rolling to remove any ridges and roller marks by running the roller over it lightly in long, vertical strokes. Apply it to the whole painted section.
7. Finish your paint job by repeating the process of laying, spreading and back rolling the paint in 4 foot sections until the whole entire wall has been covered.
